Just Start

Something happened yesterday that finally pushed me towards doing this. “This” is using writing to tell stories and, in doing that, to organize my thoughts and make some sense out of … life. That’s the hope, anyway. I’ve thought about doing this so many times - there have been times in my life where I have written a blog or otherwise needed to communicate a lot of information via written communication (namely social media posts) - and I have imagined that it might be helpful.

So what has kept me from doing it? Well, putting something out there publicly for one thing. I am one thin-skinned, easily hurt (easily crushed) human being. I’d love to have a thicker skin, but that’s just not the reality of little old me at the ripe old age of 52. (Yikes, it’s startling to see that number in black and white.) I spent nearly 12 years in a role that required heartfelt posts and sharing possibly polarizing information. Unless you’ve been under a rock or in North Korea for the past three decades, I don’t need to spell out what people are like on posts. I don’t need any more time in my life spent reading bullshit, judgmental posts from people that should not matter one ounce in my life.

Two, well, ADHD. Duh. Pretty sure that one is going to become really freaking obvious over the course of some posts.

Now? Now I’ve gotten around to the right frame of mind. I think. I don’t care if anyone reads it. Right now, today, I have no intention of sharing it widely, if at all. The therapy part of this is in the telling. The telling requires organizing my thoughts, recalling specifics, and, hopefully, a bit of reflection.

So here I go. I think I have chosen a ‘fun’ one for the first one. Oh, and that ‘something’ that happened yesterday and brought me, finally, to the point of action? I’ll get around to that. Eventually.
